Matthew Edgar Loxley Darts

There’s something pretty cool about opening a box with a player’s face on it that you’ve watched on TV for years – especially when it’s Matthew Edgar. The Loxley Matthew Edgar darts arrive in classic Loxley style: a compact cardboard sleeve, big player image, Edgar TV branding and a little window showing off the three barrels inside. On the front you’ve got the “made in England” note, 90% tungsten and 21 g weight clearly marked, and on the back the cheeky five-star “Edgar TV” panel that fits his personality perfectly.

Inside, everything is ready to go. The darts come in Loxley’s simple plastic carry case, which is actually really handy – this is one of those sets you can literally pull out of the packaging, stick in your pocket and head straight to the pub. You get three short Loxley stems and three Edgar TV flights prepped and ready, so setup is quick and fuss-free.

In the hand, the dart is a proper straight barrel – nice and slim at 6.1 mm wide and around 50.7 mm long. The back end carries a small Loxley logo and a run of very fine, narrow rings coloured white and blue. That rear section is deliberately toned down – there’s texture there, but Adam was clear it’s not an aggressive grip. Around the middle of the barrel you hit the Edgar TV spacer, then from there forward the dart changes character: the rings become wider and bolder, coloured in a pink tone with finer, black-coloured rings cut into them. That front grip section is much more assertive and, in Adam’s words, “really grippy actually – quite surprising”.

Up at the nose there’s a short taper into a standard steel point. It’s not an extended specialist point – more of a traditional length – which suits the straight, no-nonsense design. With the short stems and standard flights, the whole setup feels controlled and very “player-like”, without any gimmicks.

On the board, Adam was pretty happy from the off: steady tons, 60s, 85s – nothing silly, just solid scoring. He normally throws around 21–22 g anyway, so the weight felt familiar, but he did note the darts were flying a touch high, which is usually a sign of good confidence and maybe a bit more power than he realised he was putting in. The big takeaway was that the front grip zone really does the work: for front or mid grippers, there’s loads of purchase without feeling razor sharp, and the slim profile makes grouping nice and easy. Rear grippers can use the back section, but the grip there is smoother, so if you absolutely need a really sticky rear grip, this might not be your perfect match.

Overall, the Matthew Edgar darts feel exactly like what they are: a clean, modern straight barrel with some extra machining and colour to give it personality, but still very much a practical match dart. The extra detail and dual grip zones help justify the slightly higher price compared to some other Loxleys – you’re paying for more machining and a player signature rather than a basic blank barrel.
