The Target Scope 01 SP darts are one of those sets that immediately look a bit different from the usual straight barrel. That stood out right away – the packaging looks superb, the barrel design is a little more technical and refined than average, and the whole range has clearly been built around that “camera lens / scope” idea.
In the hand, I think these come across as a really smart modern straight barrel with a lot of subtle detail. Max talked through the short Swiss Point, the slight bullnose-style taper at the front, then the wide groove and twin-ring section with the red inlay, before moving into that front ring grip area with the rougher stone-like finish. He also pointed out the angled groove section through the middle, along with the square Target logo section, before the rear grip returns with slightly narrower rings and then tapers away into the shaft. That all lines up quite nicely with Target’s own description of a straight barrel with front radial grooves and rear nano grooves. The real appeal here is that the grip is not all doing the same thing — it changes a little as you move along the dart, but the overall barrel still feels cohesive.
On the board, these looked like a dart with plenty of natural promise. Max said they were going in at a nice angle, that the grip felt fine, and that the coating itself added a bit of extra feel without making the barrel harsh. He also said he was still getting a clean release even while adjusting to the setup. That feels like an important point with this one, because the dart is not relying on loads of raw grip — it is more about a smooth, consistent feel with just enough texture to help guide the release. When he got into the routine, he still completed it in nine darts, which he said is about where he aims to be, so even though it was not a spectacular run, it still sounded like a solid first outing.
Grip-wise, Max gave them a 2.5 / 5, and that sounds pretty much right. He said they were not overly grippy, his fingers were not catching, and the release stayed clean. The stone-like coating and the groove layout gave just enough extra grip to be helpful without becoming too aggressive. That puts them in a very usable middle ground. If you are the sort of player who likes a dart to feel neat and repeatable rather than sharp and sticky, this sounds like it could be a very good fit.
