The Mission Ion is a straight, 95% tungsten barrel that looks every bit as fierce as it feels in the hand. With its alternating cobalt blue and natural tungsten rings running the full length of the barrel, it has that proper “techy” circuit-board vibe while still being a very practical, no-nonsense player’s dart.
We tested the chunky 30g version, which is much heavier than most players are used to, but the profile still stays surprisingly reasonable in the hand thanks to the high tungsten content. The concave twin-ring grip is sharp, even and consistent from front to back, meaning the dart feels the same whether you’re a front, mid or rear gripper – you aren’t hunting for a specific sweet spot every throw.
On the board, the extra weight takes a bit of getting used to, with both Gav and Max needing to correct for the dart wanting to drop low early on. Once the arm settled, though, there were still steady tons and 140s on show, proving that with the right weight choice from the range (22–30g), this could be a very “pick up and play” option for a wide variety of throwers. At around £54.95 for a 95% tungsten straight barrel with this level of machining and finish, it sits in a very competitive price bracket too.
The Review
Ion Mission Darts
The Mission Ion 95% is a bold, modern straight barrel built around a continuous concave twin-ring grip and a striking blue–silver colourway. In the heavy 30g spec it’s a serious lump of tungsten, but the high tungsten content keeps the profile relatively slim, and the grip pattern is consistent from nose to rear, making it suitable for front, mid and rear grippers alike.
