The Target Josh Rock Gen 1 SP darts are one of those player sets that immediately feel current. Josh Rock is obviously a huge name now, and there was a lot of interest in seeing what sort of setup his first-generation dart would bring. These are available in 22g, 23g, 24g and 25g, they are a straight modern barrel built to Rock’s match-play preferences, with confident grip zones and a controlled release.
In the hand, I think these come across as a very modern player dart with quite a lot of detail without becoming messy. Max talked through the 26mm gold Swiss Storm Nano point, the tapered nose with blue inlaid precision milling, then the main staggered twin-ring section with square-cut grooves, before the rear section shifts into that geometric cell design with the gold inlay. Premier’s description lines up with that really well, calling it a straight barrel with a tapered nose and a dynamic celled geometric milling grip. That feels like a fair way to describe it because the front and middle clearly lean into the more traditional ringed grip feel, while the rear brings in something a bit more visually distinctive.
On the board, these looked like a dart that had plenty going for them. Max started nicely, hit a 140 and a ton in the early throwing, and said the darts felt nice and clean on the release. He also liked how the point and barrel sat seamlessly together, which is exactly what you want from a Swiss Point setup, especially if you are trying to keep deflections down in tighter groupings. Even though the finishing part of the routine ended up a little messy, his main takeaway was still very positive: the dart itself felt really nice, the release stayed clean, and with a bit more setup tweaking he felt he could get them going at the angle he prefers.
Grip-wise, Max gave them a 3 / 5, and that feels about right. He said he was right on the back edge of the main ring grip, where it meets the hexagonal rear section, and that he was catching a little, which gave him a slight pull. But he also made the important point that it stayed controllable. That is what matters here. These are not a smooth, passive dart, but they are not some mad over-the-top grip monster either. They sit in a nice middle ground where there is enough grip definition to work with, and because the barrel is so long there is loads of room for players to move around and find the bit that suits them best.
At £119.95, these look like a proper premium modern player dart. They have plenty of grip options, a strong visual identity, and the sort of long, slim barrel that can suit a lot of different styles once you find your zone. Max was pretty clear that there is big scoring potential in them if you get the right grip position, and that feels like the fairest way to sum them up.
