The Winmau Brendan Dolan Player Edition is a really interesting dart because it manages to combine a specialist feel with broad appeal.
What makes the barrel stand out is the way the grip sections repeat but change slightly as you move down the dart. At the front there is a narrow front scallop with green and natural ring detailing. Beautiful for front grippers, especially because you do not see that many front-loaded scallops designed that way.
The barrel moves into a triple-ring grip with lateral grooves, before opening into a much wider second scallop, and then repeating the triple-ring layout again further back. That means the dart keeps giving you options. In your review, Max made the point that whether you are a front, mid, or rear gripper, there is something there for you to work with.
On the board, Max got on with them pretty well. He completed the routine in nine darts, said the scallop was in exactly the right place for him, and felt the dart flew through the air really nicely. His only real concern was the overall length once the full setup was on.
At the current direct Red Dragon price of £62.00, it sits very comfortably in the modern player-dart bracket.
