The Red Dragon Grizzly 2 Anniversary Limited Edition is one of those darts that instantly feels like a throwback. It’s part of the wider 50 Years of Red Dragon celebration range, and in your review that really came through — this is an old-school style barrel brought back for players and collectors who remember these shapes and grips from years gone by.
The barrel itself has quite a lot going on despite the classic styling. At the front there’s a standard silver point into a tapered nose with micro grip and a couple of square-cut grooves, which gives front grippers a little something extra to work with. Then the dart widens into the main grip area, which is a knurled / nail grip section repeated in two blocks with a square-cut groove between them. That old-school knurl is the defining feel of the dart.
Throwing-wise, this was one of those funny reviews where Gav actually got on with the dart much better than Max. Gav hit a 121 and a 140 in the five-minute test window and came away really enjoying them. He made a really good point too: a lot of players always chase the flashiest, most colourful, most modern-looking darts, usually straight barrels with all sorts of trendy cuts, but sometimes trying something different — like an old-school nail-grip torpedo — can be a lot of fun and actually suit you better than expected. Max, who usually scores with almost anything, never really clicked with them.
At £40, they’re also pretty sensibly priced, especially when you remember this is a limited edition anniversary reissue rather than a basic catalogue dart.
