In this review we’ve been throwing with the Winmau Vecta stems – the composite ones with a polycarbonate base and aluminium top. On the table they look really smart, especially with all the different colour options: solid colours plus mixed tops like purple/black, blue/red, white/gold, black/silver and more.
In the hand they’re lighter than we expected for an alloy-topped stem. The 2BA base has a slight taper into the main body with the Vecta branding, then the non-rotating aluminium top with extra-deep slots for the flight. Getting a flight in is a little snug the first time, but once it’s seated it goes about two-thirds of the way in and feels really secure – no need for stem rings or punched flights.
On the board we tried to be a bit cruel and deliberately grouped tight to see if we could bend the alloy tops. We came away with a couple of scratches where the point had dragged along the metal, but no bent arms, no twisted tops and no flights popping out. The stems didn’t noticeably change the flight of the dart either, so from a throw point of view they just did their job quietly in the background – which is exactly what we want.
At £6.95 a set, with loads of colours and three stem lengths (short, tweenie/intermediate and medium) in both Standard No2 and Shape No6, the Force 90 Vortex sits in a really strong spot: proper tech upgrade over the original Force 90, but still a very affordable way to try a premium integrated system.

Vecta Winmau Stems
Overall, we were really impressed with the Winmau Vecta stems. They feel light and solid in the hand, they don’t mess with the flight of the dart, and the aluminium tips give a genuinely tight hold on the flight without needing any extra hardware. The fact they shrugged off deliberate stem-hunting groupings without bending is a big positive for league and competition play. Add in the colour range and sensible price point, and they’re definitely a stem system we’d be happy to keep in our regular rotation.
