The Penetrator 4 Red Dragon Darts are one of those classic-feeling barrels that doesn’t rely on wild milling or bright coatings to stand out. The profile is very player-friendly: a straight, centre-balanced barrel with two pronounced concave zones that give front and rear grippers a really natural “seat” for the fingers. The nose flows neatly from a black point into a short conical front, so the dart wants to group tightly without snagging flights on the way in.
In the hand, it feels smoother than it looks. The shallow ring cuts and the concave shaping provide most of the security, so you get a gentle, controlled grip rather than something sharp or aggressive. Max found it very close to his own match dart – the kind of barrel you can just pick up and throw without needing a big adjustment, especially if you already like centre-weighted parallels.
On the board, that familiarity really showed. Max was clearly at home with the shape, banging in multiple big scores including 180s, while Gav found it a bit less forgiving because he prefers a grippier barrel and kept dragging into the fives. If you’re a front or rear gripper who likes to “push” or “pull” from a shaped section rather than digging into razor-style cuts, the Penetrator 4 fits that brief nicely and feels very much like a proper, old-school player’s dart.

The Red Dragon Penetrator 4 is a very traditional, centre-balanced parallel barrel with modern 95% tungsten spec and that 50-year collection collectability. The twin concave grip zones front and back give you clear, repeatable reference points without forcing you into an ultra-aggressive feel. Max, whose match dart is a similar style, threw superbly with them – big scores, easy grouping, and a very natural release – which really underlines how “match-ready” this shape is.
